After our successful attempt at using York Peppermint Patties to make awesome York Peppermint Brownies, we thought we should try using other candies! Surely if putting York Peppermint Patties in brownies worked, putting other kinds of candy inside of brownies would work as well, right? We wanted to find out! We found a bag of assorted candy bars and had a bag of Heath bars at our apartment and decided to make two new types of brownies.
First we gathered our ingredients.
Assorted Candy Bar Brownies Ingredients:
1 box of brownies and ingredients on box
1 bag of assorted mini candy bars (we used Twix, 3 Musketeers, Milky Way, Snickers)
Heath Bar Brownies Ingredients:
1 box of brownies and ingredients on box
1 bag of heath bars
First, we crushed the Heath bars by putting them in a Ziplock and hitting them with a meat tenderizer.
Next mixed the brownie batter according to the package directions. We poured half of the mixed brownie batter in a greased pan. Then we put a layer of crushed Heath bar on the left half and lined the candy bars on the right half. (if you are making this yourself you can make the whole thing using your favorite candy bar, we just wanted to experiment)
Then we put the other half of the brownie batter on top of the candy. We baked the brownies for the recommended amount of time and then checked them with a toothpick to see if it was done. If it isn’t done you may need to add a little more time, just be sure to keep an eye on them.
When we pulled it out of the oven it looked and smelled great, but on the side with the candy bars there were several large brownie bubbles. When we peeled them off there were large craters underneath (you can see it in the picture below).
The candy inside these brownies definitely made them a unique treat! Since we used assorted candy bars it was a fun surprise every time we took a bite- we never knew what we were going to get! They were a little harder and chewier than normal brownies- Kristen brought them home for her family and they loved them because basically the whole batch brownies tasted like a corner piece. On the other hand, Amelia prefers the inside brownie pieces, so these were not her favorites. This personal preference aside, these brownies are certainly an easy way to add fun to your brownie recipe! Check out some of our other baking shenanigans below!
Love love love this idea! I’m sure I’d be horrified to know how much sugar is in the brownie, but really, who cares when it looks that tasty!
LOOKS AMAZING!! Will try it out on my brownie lovers.
Awesome! Let us know how they turn out!
